The School of Open Learning earlier known as The School of Correspondence Courses and Continuing Education was established under the University of Delhi in 1962. Master of Arts in Hindi or MA Hindi is a 2-year postgraduate course, the minimum eligibility for which is graduation in any discipline. The course essentially involves the study of literature, linguistics and philosophies of the Hindi language. Subjects included in the program are Hindi Poetry, Drama, Fiction, Literary Criticism, Literary History etc.

Hindi, besides English, is the only other language of communication authorized for use in the Central Government’s correspondence of the country. This ensures plenty career opportunities in the government sector for successful postgraduates of the course. Hindi spans categories such as Social Sciences, Physical & Professional Sciences, Aesthetics, Natural Science, Commerce, Official and Media Languages and Translated Material.

Eligibility

B.A. (Hons) Hindi from University of Delhi with 65% marks for General Category 58.5% for OBC or equivalent grade & admission of SC/ST/PwD/CW category candidates will be done as per University rules

These are conditions for admission on merit. There are a number of other conditions for admission through an entrance exam which are mentioned in detail on the main site of School Of Learning.

Instruction to fill MA Hindi form online

The application process is online for all courses except for candidates belonging to EWC and EOC category. To apply online, candidate must

  • Register himself/herself at the official website of DU.
  • The login ID and password will be sent to candidate though SMS on the registered mobile number.
  • Log in, fill the details and upload the following necessary documents
  • Recent passport size photographs
  • Scanned signature
  • 10th and 12th mark sheet and passing certificates.
  • Reserved category certificate
  • Class 12th original provisional certificate
  • Class 12th original migration certificate (for candidates who have passed from any other board than CBSE).
  • Latest original income certificate if applying for fee concession.
  • Pay the registration fees online and save the final Application form.
  • Print the fee receipt and print the ID Card.

Candidate must fill up the Registration form online though the DU centralised online application process.

After filling up the registration form, pay the registration fee of INR 500 (general/OBC) and INR 250 (ST/SC/PWD) online.

After successful payment, admit card can be downloaded when available and the same can be presented at the time of the Entrance Exam.

This two-year MA Hindi course demands a total fee of Rs 9,980

MA Hindi Career Prospects

Successful postgraduates of the course are hired in capacities such as Hindi Officer, Hindi Translator, Hindi Assistant, Manager (Official language) in various departments and units of Central/ State governments. Career opportunities for such postgraduates have increased manifold with the advancement of private TV and Radio channels and launch of Hindi versions of established magazines and newspapers. In the field of Hindi media, there is a growing need for Hindi Editors, Hindi Script writers, Reporters, Correspondents, Sub Editors, Proofreaders, Radio Jockey, Anchors etc. Professional positions such as Script Writer / Dialogue Writer /Diction expert/ Lyricist in Radio / TV / Cinema can be pursued. One can work as an freelance translator or set up its own agency.
